The Training For Trekking Podcast

Nov 4, 2019

In this episode, I interview Lisa Wilkes, a lifelong trekker and incredibly knowledgeable podiatrist. She helps clear up many of the misconceptions around feet which commonly get passed around in the hiking community.

When it comes to hiking, your feet are your best friend. But, unfortunately, foot issues are incredibly common in the adventure community. And even more unfortunate, is that there is SO much misinformation around these topics in the hiking world...

Subjects like how to deal with plantar fasciitis, how to prevent shin splints and the use of orthotics are some of the common subjects which get absolutely butchered.

So to clear things up, I invited Lisa on to the show, to help share her specialist insights on a number of these topics.

We discuss:

  • Plantar Fasciitis (and why you have absolutely no hope of trying to self diagnose it on the internet)
  • What orthotics are good for (and what they are not so great for)
  • A few signs you may need to invest in a new pair of shoes or boots
  • Dealing with weak ankles while hiking
  • Shin splints (what they are and how to manage them)
  • How best to prevent and treat blisters
  • And much, much more
